Dictionary.com gives us two ways to think about "religion"
#
1. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
2. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
Man made religious structures are all the same, they end up in #2. Someone differant is putting on the baloney but it all makes the same sandwitch.
I'll stick with #1

Cross of Stake?
by jojochan ini was watching " the passion of the christ" with my cousin the other day, and while she did reply that it was a snuff film to say the least, she was moved by the film.
one thing of course she and i split on was the issue of cross or stake, which has been disscussed on this board many times.
but not to start a debated because i was intoxicated off schnapps i simply replied," what if i showed you from the nwt somthing to think about?

Revelation It's Grand Climax at Hand! - bookstudy
by TheListener ini was reading e-watchman today and someone there is saying that after studying the what does the bible really teach book at bookstudies the next book will be the revelation book!!!.
there isn't any real proof, but the poster claimed a letter from bethel stated this.
perhaps some here can dig around and confirm or deny this new rumor.. we've studied it 3 times in the past and it's been awhile.

prophecor said
"Pardon my ignorance, but what are some of the things that no longer hold water in the book?"
I would suggest sitting down and actually reading the book. It made some pretty big claims that I don't even think they would be willing to do today. It's like every time somebody sneezes there is a prophecy that the Watchtower fullfills. The book spends so much time putting emphesis on the Watchtower that it is more of JW pride book rather than an explanation. It was also written druing the hype of the 80's, new world order, communisum, ect. It's just not written for todays JW crowd. -

I agree, the Revelation book will probably never be studied again due to the fact it is so outdated. They have allready begun to reprint the book in softcover, with no changes.
The only possibility is if they get a "revised" sheet that goes along with the book. Which would be a joke in itself. I think they will move into a more tame publication that takes them up through the end of the year when they will start on some new book released this year at the conventions.
By the way, does anybody know what the new "provision" is yet? -

Text Critical Notes
by peacefulpete in.
check this out: the originality of text-critical symbols in codex vaticanus.
i found very interesting the mark in john 7 possibly suggesting the presence of the adultrous woman story in some early copy available to the composer of the codex vat.

Thanks for the referance, it was a good read. I still haven't made up my mind as to if the story in John 7 was in the book originally, or if it was added. What do you think?

Did anyone hear the expression- If it was`nt for Jehovah I wouldnt stick it
by jambon1 inwhere i live it`s common to hear the brothers/sisters say 'if it wasnt for jehovah i wouldnt be here' - refering to the fact that they are fed up, sick of everyone and they are only staying in the truth for jehovah.
it is normally uttered after a fight in the cong or when someone has done something bad/brought bad publicity etc.
naturally, it is said with a dgree of head shaking.. does this not contradict the idea of a worldwide, supportive & loving brotherhood exsisting among jw's?.

I've heard that before. My question is, if not doing it because of other people then why organization at all? The people are still keeping you there, even if they like to humor themselves that they are not. Even those who have get dissillusioned usually blame on the local brothers and how the situation is differant in other halls (so they think).

The wonderful answer: WOJ
by mustang inyep, waiting on jehovah.
this statement has really good potential as a "catch-all" phrase.
it is a useful palliative and "anti-inflammatory"; it's general but agreeable vagueness is magnificent.

JW writing committee: Incapable of seeing the irony!

meanwhile, in the very same magazine, we get 2 study articles containing the following:.

I don't have the book with me, but in the beggining of the chapter about Jesus it basically talks about how learning about Jesus is much more than simply knowing his name.
If you read the paragraph and then insert the name "Jehovah" all of the pride they take in the name goes right out the window. I was simply amazed that they used this kind of reasoning, especially since they put so much importance on the name Jehovah simply because it isn't as well known, but since the name Jesus is well known they come at it from a differant angle, the same angle that critics of the Watchtower point to when discussing their emphesis of the name Jehovah.
Did that make sense? I'll post what the book says when I get home, that might show what i'm talking about.
